AKC Canine Good Citizen
The AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) was designed to reward dogs that have good manners at home and in the community. This 10 part test evaluates the dog's ability to perform basic commands in a public setting. Dogs must be friendly and show no signs of aggression or fear during any parts of the test. And, many home owner associations and landlords are now requiring dogs to have their CGC certification.
Who Can Test?
Purebred or Mixed. Young or Old. Dogs trained by their owners or that have gone through obedience classes. Any dog that is UTD on their vaccinations can be tested for their CGC. But if puppies are tested, it is recommended that they get retested once they are adults.

As of January 2013, the CGC is now considered a title! Any dog that completes the titling process and has an AKC registration number, Canine Partner number or a PAL number can apply the initials CGC to the end of their name. Learn More...

AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy
The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy is a new program aimed to help puppies and their owners get off to the right start with training and education. During the program, puppies learn skills that will help them pass the 20 step test and prepare them for the CGC. The S.T.A.R. Puppy requires owners and their puppies to attend at least six classes, and like the CGC, puppies must be free of aggression and able to perform basic commands.
Who Can Test?
Any purebred or mixed puppy up to 1 year old can test for the S.T.A.R. Puppy.
